Amuse 2002 - 8" x 24" finished size This piece was my response to a 2002 challenge by the Honeybee Quilters in Jacksonville, Florida. Each participant was given three circus-like prints to incorporate in a small quilt with the theme "Under the Big Top". I made a clown that is balancing on the world atop a "pi" symbol with is also the Hebrew "Chai" symbol of life. So the clown tries to balance his life in the world upon a teardrop-shaped backing representing the tears of a clown behind his funny face. The whole composition sits below the graphic rendition of the Big Top Tent that has open spaces making the columns of the tent. The binding is crushed velvet and it hangs on a small rod with many hanging embellishments of decorative cords, yarns and charms. This was a fun quilt to make and I made a second version which was gifted to a private art collection of Port St. Lucie, Florida. . • 2002 Honeybee Retreat Guild Challenge, 2nd prize, Jacksonville, FL . • 2006 Faithful Circle Quilters Show, Columbia, MD |
