ENOUGH!!! Cross Words! 2010 - 36" x 36" finished size This quilt was made for a show on Racism. It is currently traveling across the US in various shows. The online group for Obama quilts made this their second exhibition in 2010. My statement on racism is: ENOUGH! My concept was based on the graphic black and white qualities of a crossword puzzle layout. Many times my quilts have a black and white accent stripe. This was a creative opportunity to use my black and white and a play on words. The image was totally drawn from scratch and created in Adobe Illustrator. It was printed on one large piece of cotton cloth and heavily quilted. The abstract curvy swiss cheese like element was to represent the different circles humanity is involved in. The background is over written with the lyrics from the Black Eyed Peas song “One Tribe”. The crosswords are words that remind the viewer that we are one world, one race, one tribe, one planet and one people. The world “enough!” is my voice saying - ENOUGH already! We ARE ONE people! |
