Space Thong?
2005 - 18" x 28" finished size This quilt will probably become my claim to fame! This was a guild challenge named "Space Thong". In the challenge packet there was a fat quarter of the navy starry background fabric, a small piece of the tacky silver mesh and a small piece of silver lame. I opened the package and asked???? Space Thong? Huh? This was an out-of-town guild that I used to visit once a year. Having no idea what to do with this challenge, I made the letters "Space Thong?" and placed that on a background with a rendition of the planet Saturn. Then I discretely placed two women's thongs top and bottom, hoping to disguise them as simple graphic elements. Then I thought the whole thing was so tacky I might as well add some metallic silver fringe. The retreat date approaches and the challenge quilts are hung up on the display wall. What a shock when I saw twenty quilts with flip flops - otherwise known as thongs in Jacksonville, FL - floating in outer space!!! Oops - I only know thongs as women's butt floss! You learn something new every day. But I did take home 2nd prize for creativity (lol) and a gift basket of sewing supplies. |
